Outreach
Sister Edward Joseph Murphy, C.S.J. Parish Outreach
The Parish Social Ministry strives to make tangible just what it means to take up the joys, hopes, sorrows and anxieties of our sisters and brothers in today’s world.
The Sister Patricia Turley, C.S.J. Food Pantry provides food assistance to the economically poor in our community through generous donations of the Sacred Heart parishioners.
Direct Support the Outreach volunteers offers clients assistance in finding resources needed to meet their basic needs for housing, utilities and food. They play a vital role in supporting those who otherwise may feel alone in their struggle to meet day to day needs.
Bereavement Support Our bereavement ministry offers monthly gatherings for prayer and conversation for those grieving the loss of a loved one. We come together seasonally for Evening Prayer to celebrate the lives of those who’ve gone before us. Each year, for All-Souls day, we have a reading of the names of all those whose funerals have been celebrated at Sacred Heart since the last All Souls Day.
Consolation Ministry The volunteers from our consolation ministry walk with families as they prepare for the funeral of a loved one; letting the family know they remain in our hearts with follow-up with cards and phone calls.
Homebound Parishioners who are not able to physically be with us at mass are vital members of our parish family. To stay connected to them we offer weekly phone calls, seasonal cards and greetings. When possible, we arrange for transportation to medical appointments. And most importantly offer communion from our Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist
Caring Hands Visitation When we become aware of a parishioner in a local medical facility, a caring hands visitor will visit the parishioner.
Giving Tree An annual project is our Advent Giving Tree. All families who come to us for food assistance are provided with gifts at Christmas from the overwhelming generosity of the Sacred Heart Parishioners.
The Closet at Sacred Heart is a ‘clothing exchange’; our very own boutique like room where you can donate or pick up new or gently used clothes.
Our Sister Parish at St. Martha’s Uniondale While our own Outreach is busy tending to the needs of the most vulnerable in our community, we are very aware that our neighbors next door also suffer from economic needs. We see the Parish Outreach at St. Martha’s as our sister parish and share with them from the donations we receive and help spread the great love given so freely to us.
Request a Prayer
The Ministry of Praise Sacred Heart has many prayer participants in the Pope’s World Wide Prayer network (The Apostleship of Prayer). Those enrolled in this ministry promise to pray for the Holy Father’s monthly intentions and intentions of the parish mailed to them each month gathered from the needs of the parish members. Please submit your prayer intentions here.
